The Mad Hatter restaurant started as a dream for Dermot Doran. Originally from Co. Kildare Ireland he emigrated to the United States in 1993. He started his career in the pubs of his hometown Castledermot and then Dublin.  Since moving to the states he has worked in bars and hotels in and around Boston.  As a bartender he was one of GQ’s most inspired bartenders of Boston and also created award winning drinks for Woodford Reserve Bourbon. The STFU which is part of drinks menu is one of the award winning drinks.

In 2012, Dermot realized his dream of opening a small breakfast place. The Mad Hatter quickly became a local favorite and Dermot’s dreams grew bigger. In 2018, the Mad Hatter moved from its tiny spot on Main Street in Weymouth to the much larger space at 969 Washington Street in Weymouth. The expansion was not only the physical size of the building, but the Mad Hatter also grew from a breakfast and lunch diner to a full service bar, outdoor patio and dining room serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. In addition the Wonderland Room is the restaurant’s event space suitable for hosting gatherings as intimate as 30, but can accommodate up to 150 guests.

Although the location has changed Dermot’s mission has not. The main goal at the Mad Hatter is to make our customers feel like they are part of our family. We strive to serve the tastiest food and excellent service. Dermot continues to create modern Irish/American comfort food with a twist.
